1941


  • July 26th - the US freezes all exports to Japan
  • December 7th - Japan attacks Pearl Harbour
  • December 8th - Britain and the United States declare war on Japan
  • December 8th - The start of the Battle of Wake Island and the Battle of Guam
  • December 9th - China declares war on Japan
  • December 10th - Japan invades Guam
  • December 11th - Germany and Italy declare war on the United States
  • December 16th - Japan invades British Borneo
  • December 18th - Japan invades Hong Kong
  • December 23rd - Japan invades Wake Island

1942


  • February 8th - Japan invades Burma
  • February 15th - the fall of Singapore
  • March - Japanese air raids over Australia
  • May 4~8th - the Battle of the Coral Sea: a US fleet forces Japanese invaders to turn back from Port Moresby
  • June 3~7th - Battle of Midway: US Navy intercepts Japanese invasion fleet which was heading for Midway Island and ends the danger of New Zealand's invasion
  • September - J. Robert Oppenheimer becomes the director of the Manhattan Project
  • November 12th - the US starts utilising a new battle tactic called "island hopping"

1943


  • November 23rd - America wins the Battle of Tarwa, although with a significant loss of 1700 men

1944


  • July 28th - Hideki Tojo, Japanese Prime Minister, is forced to resign
  • August 10th - island hopping shows results, pushing Japan out of most of Southeast Asia and bringing the Marianas Islands into US control 

1945


  • April 12th - Harry S. Truman becomes the 33rd president of the United States
  • May 7th - the unconditional surrender of Germany, ending the war in Europe
  • August 6th - the US drops the bomb "Little Boy" on Hiroshima, Japan
  • August 9th - the US drops another bomb "Fat Man" on Nagasaki, Japan
  • August 15th - the Japanese surrender, ending WWII
