- December 9th - China declares war on Japan
- December 10th - Japan invades Guam
- December 11th - Germany and Italy declare war on the United States

1942
- February 8th - Japan invades Burma

1943
- November 23rd - America wins the Battle of Tarwa, although with a significant loss of 1700 men
1944
- July 28th - Hideki Tojo, Japanese Prime Minister, is forced to resign
- August 10th - island hopping shows results, pushing Japan out of most of Southeast Asia and bringing the Marianas Islands into US control
1945
- April 12th - Harry S. Truman becomes the 33rd president of the United States
- May 7th - the unconditional surrender of Germany, ending the war in Europe
- August 6th - the US drops the bomb "Little Boy" on Hiroshima, Japan
- August 9th - the US drops another bomb "Fat Man" on Nagasaki, Japan
- August 15th - the Japanese surrender, ending WWII
